Rotary Supports - Freedom for Girls

This event was a follow up of the Rotary Family Health Day that was held on 30th April 2011.

The schools, namely St Stephens, Reuben Baptist, Reuben Vision, Tumaini Community Education Centre, New Dawn, and Better Life Primary Schools have incorporated the Healthy Choices Curriculum into their school syllabus. The Healthy Choices Curriculum creates awareness on HIV prevention among the young people.

The presentation of the sanitary towels was preceded with a heath talk, where the girls had an opportunity to openly discuss issues on their health and hygiene, and dispel myths surrounding the menstrual cycle. As the girls received their sanitary towels their faces were alight with joy. The gratitude they felt was obvious.

There was also a need to educate and involve the boys in supporting their female counterparts.

The pupils were accompanied by their teachers who have supported the girls during their transition into adolescent.

Thanks Rotary for making a big difference!

On 8th July 2011 at the Mukuru Center of HOPE in Mukuru Informal Settlement, the Rotary Club of Nairobi donated 141 packs of sanitary towels to 141 girls from 6 Primary Schools in the area. Each girl received a one year supply of the sanitary towels.
