COMPREHENSIVE PREVENTION PROGRAM
(CPP)
The Comprehensive Prevention Progarm (CPP) began as a youth program and now, while still reaching young people, the scope of the program has expanded to a larger population target group and also to include treatment. The work centres around the following:
- Establishing and maintaining youth centers and/or programs intended to help young people reduce their risk of HIV infection.
- Provision of training in targeted HIV behaviour change, including training related to abstinence and delay of sexual debut.
- Facilitation and implementation of outreach activities (which includes training) targeting youth, parents, community and religious leaders, and providing opportunities for young people to participate in community outreach.
- Development of formal linkages with other programs and services to ensure provision of youth-friendly services.
- Collaboration with partner organizations for delivery of mobile VCT services targeting young people.
- VCT - Voluntary Counseling and Tesing. This serves as an entry point for getting to know one's HIV status and then getting the referrals needed to maintain positive health. HWWK runs VCT centres within its Centres of HOPE in Mukuru (Nairobi), Makindu, Mombasa, Kitengela and Eldoret, and conducts mobile VCT in and around the towns where the Centres of HOPE are situated, as well as nightime counseling and testing in the same regions along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway. Night time testing and information-giving targets sex workers, truckers and other night populations.
and includes the provision of STI services
- Youth-friendly reproductive health clinics, which treat Sexually Transmitted Infections and offer other reproductive health services such as family planning and laboratory analyses at subsidized rates. HWWK runs 2 clinics, one at Centre of HOPE Mukuru in Nairobi and the other at the Makindu Centre of HOPE.
